New members are always most welcome. We would be
equally delighted to see you if you just wish to pay us a visit during a rehearsal, either for a blow,
or just to listen. We'd be even more delighted to see you at one of our concerts. Members of the orchestra are always happy to chat about the orchestra, or demonstrate the various instruments that make up the ensemble. Contra basses are understandably popular.
Players of the requisite standard ( preferably about grade 6 - 8 )
who would be interested in joining the orchestra are encouraged to contact Ian Chesters via
the Contact Us page for further details. Although you're welcome to just turn up if you feel so inclined.
The orchestra aims for high standards in its performances, but first and foremost looks to provide playing opportunities for all. There are no formal auditions, and if you think you're up to it, then we're unlikely to turn you away. The advantage of being a relatively large orchestra means that you're not too exposed, and there'll always be somebody to turn to for help. But, as Dennis Bamforth would say, "If in doubt, finger, don't blow!"
In the event that you do decide to join, the annual subscription is £20, payable at the start of each new season, in September.
